More than 85 years of pioneering
85 years of development, expansion and investment – also in Świdnica. DBI – a Danish company – celebrates its anniversary.
– Being part of DBI’s long-standing history makes us genuinely proud – admits Łukasz Wołosiński, Plant Manager of Poland’s DBI Plastics, during the company’s 85th anniversary celebrations. The plant in Świdnica, which has been continuously expanded and modernised, has become a crucial element in the development of the Danish plastic products manufacturer and currently one of the global market leaders. The anniversary celebrations held at the Park Hotel in Świdnica offered a possibility to thank all employees for their contribution to the success of the company that boasts family roots and an international reach. Attendees were treated to a musical performance by Natalia Szczypuła, finalist of the Voice of Poland, accompanied by the Vertigo Band.
The 85th anniversary of the Danish company DBI also marks more than 20 years of development of its Polish branch, located in Świdnica. – The plant in Poland was opened in 2000, and it has seen its largest growth in the last seven years. This development is evident when looking at the increasing employee numbers, by way of example. We began with a team of 12, while today our Polish factory has as many as 130 employees. This is a huge developmental leap for the company – explains Łukasz Wołosiński.
The history of DBI Plastics dates back to 1937. This was when a family-owned company became one of the first manufacturers of plastic products in Denmark. Over the following years, the company has continued to grow, modernise and expand while extending its reach to other continents. The company’s management board and one of its production plants remain in Denmark. Its logistics centre and sales department operate in China and the United States. The company’s sales outlets can be found throughout Europe. At present, the company employs approximately 210 workers.
– I take great pride in being a part of this project and the history we are building together. As the company remains in family hands, it occupies a unique position in the labour market. We make a conscious effort to look after our employees. We have learned this from our Danish colleagues, who pay great attention to employee welfare. Whenever the company’s owner visits the Świdnica branch, he always asks about his employees first. Thanks to this approach, we never had any problems finding and retaining employees. It is exceptionally encouraging that our employees see their future in the company and wish to contribute to it – explains the Plant Manager of DBI Plastics in Poland.
The plant in Świdnica is currently the largest branch of DBI worldwide. It was established in 2000 and was initially located at Westerplatte Street, later to be relocated to Towarowa Street. At that time, a decision was made to expand and modernise the factory to enable the facility to meet the highest DBI standards. The state-of-the-art facility, which followed the design of the company’s headquarters in Denmark, opened in 2019. Apart from distribution and assembly, the Świdnica plant began production addressed to customers from the automotive sector.
– We have gone through a long process of transformation. Many processes have been transplanted to our facility in Poland, such as the logistics centre from France and Germany. A customer service department was another addition to the branch. As the company was growing year on year, a decision on the plant’s expansion was taken in 2018. We started with 1,500 m2, and today we have 10,000 m2 of production and office space. All this time, we have also been increasing employment numbers and creating new posts. We have now achieved stabilisation and are focused on optimising processes in the branch. However, we have already made some further plans connected to our Świdnica facility. This is because the owner continues to see the company’s future developing in Świdnica – sums up Łukasz Wołosiński.
